Why ecology?
Today all are aware that humankind cannot survive without protecting nature. It is not merely an emotive qiestion of the future generations any more. We are living in days in which we are much more directly affected by the consequences of irresponsible relations towards nature. We are infinitely exploiting its resources, we are poisoning, polluting everything we overtake. We accumulate into huge cities, where noise and stench brings our healts to ruin.
Thus, it's not question that nature – or at least what remained of it – needs to be protected. We feel our role as an association, and as nature-lover individuals is in practical realizatoion of that protection. In fact, protection of the environment would have to be a duty of every member in society, but unfortunately, we don't see that happening. That's why associations like ours form and initiatives of this kind come to existence.
Nature is extremely complex entity and every irresponsible interference in its affairs avenged itself until now. In fact, today more than ever we suffer the consequences of selfish human activity in excessive lodging, chemical pollution etc.: the acid rains, extreme droughts, global warming, ozone hole, species extinction and drastical pauperization of natural environment...
Paralell to the extent of devastation and pollution the task isn't easy. Thus we gather people of needed competency, who not just speak, but also feel responsible for protecting nature and improving human environment.
The forming of the Association
In our community the environmental activity and study of nature's values has a long tradition by selfless endeavors of some zealous individuals, among them Richard Csornai (1903-1984), who's name our Association bears. The Ecological Association was formed in 1987 from the ever burning need of uniting the forces of the people of similar sphere of interest and similar vision. Since then we are active as a nongovernmental, nonprofit organisation, who's membership consists of experts and people of interest in nature protection mainly from Northern Yugoslavia.
